In the boxing ring or in the classroom, fundraising for a worthy foundation or promoting an upcoming event, Jim Marmino always gave 100%. Kind, compassionate and deeply religious, Jim worked tirelessly to improve his community. Looking back to his boxing days and doing his best Marlon Brando impression he once said to me "I could have been a contender." We laughed but Jim was always more than a contender, going the distance in everything he did in life. He was a true champion. I will miss you dear cousin.

Dear Cathy and Jim's family,
You already know how wonderful Jim was and how he was cherished by his community. In working with Jim for the last few years as a Nipissing Serenity Board member, I also learned how wonderful he was. He always added such grace and wisdom to our discussions. And with some of our topics, the discussion could become heated. I will miss him greatly. My sincerest sympathies for your loss.

Jim was a senior student who took me under his wing when I was in Grade 9 at Scollard Hall. He allowed me to be his mascot when he was a boxer. Later, he was instrumental in helping me change directions when I was a teenager. Because of his influence I ended up going back to school. Jim was one of the kindest men I have ever met. I am positive I am not the only one whom Jim affirmed; he certainly helped me to believe in myself. Yes, he made a difference in many people's lives. Even in 2009 he invited me up to the Davedi Club to launch my third novel. Just recently, we agreed via email to have dinner together this coming summer in order to catch up. I am currently out of Canada or I would drive up to North Bay to celebrate his life with everyone else. He was a dear friend. I am heartbroken to read of his death. But if there's another place, another plane of existence after this life, and if it is based in any way on merit, Jim is already there and watching over all of us who knew and loved him.

My thoughts are with you and your family at this time and to Cathy who has been like a grandmother to me. Jim was not just a landlord to me but was a friend a role model and a man who saw only the best in others. He often shared words of encouragement with me and always put a smile on my face. He often reminded me about what truly is important in life, and shared his wisdom with me. He to told me to aspire to inspire. I admired how every time I seen him leaving and asked where he was off to today. He was always on his way to helping others.
Thank you Jim for all you shared with me and the inspiration you gave to me and so many others.

I Had the privilege of working with Jim when I served as a member of the board of Nipissing Serenity Hospice for 4 years.I worked closely for a few years with Jim and other members and soon grew to have a deep respect for this wise gentle man. He was a man of great integrity, honest and steadfast. He listened quietly, spoke little but when he did he offered wise counsel, never judgemental but had an uncanny spirit of offering sound advice that always pacified a difficult situation. Jim was like the "Rock of Gibraltar" , grounded, strong, steady and devoted, Dedicated to any cause he believed in, one could always count on Jim. His knowledge and peaceful demeanour set the tone for many challenging moments. Thank you Jim for the brief period of time we worked together, you will always be remembered for your devotion and unconditional commitment to life as it presented itself to you, making yourself available to make a difference.

I cannot tell you how very sorry I am to hear of Jim’s passing. We did not spend time together, socially, but I considered him a true friend. He was always a captive audience for me when he was at the office but, when he did get a chance to talk, was supportive, kind and so knowledgeable. As will everyone who knew him, I will miss him and his smile.

I wish to offer my sincerest condolences to Cathy and to all of Jim's family. Jim was good to me. Jim was like no one else I have ever met. he held himself in such a particularly dignified manner that is actually hard to describe correctly. It was just something you felt from him and around him. No matter how many things you can say about him to describe him and his goodness, there will always be something more that could be said. This is rare in people. I am glad to have known him and deeply grateful for his friendship and support.
