Obituary of Johnston Clayton Elliott

ELLIOTT: "Dinty" J.C. Passed away peacefully at Nipissing Manor on Friday, January 1st, 2016. Johnston Clayton "Dinty" Elliott, was the beloved husband for 72 years to Shirley Windsor (nee Caley), he was 95 years old. Loving father of Barry Elliott and his wife Sandra of Temagami and Lynne Williams and her husband Tim of Chatham. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Karen and by his siblings Thomas, Betty, Wilburt and Gordon. Dinty will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Christopher (Karen), Michael (Beth), Jason, Kerri, Cory (Joe), Sue-Lane, Bobbi-Jo (Phil) and by great grandchildren Mischa, Cassidy, Sarah, Ryan (Rachel), Matthew, Natalie, Kaitlyn, Jillian, Eva and Reinier. He served with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp in Canada during 1940-45, then he became the Office Manager for the ONR Boat Lines in Temagami between 1946-55, then the Postmaster in Temagami from 1955-72 and was the Personnel Manager of the Northern Postal District of Canada Post from 1972-84. He and Shirley moved to Temagami in 1946 raising a family there until they moved to North Bay in 1972. Dinty was a very active member of any community he and Shirley lived in. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, he started Scouts in Temagami and was a Queen's Scout, he was a Past Master of Cobalt #486 A.F & A.M., Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #408, a member of the Canadian Club, The North Bay Rotary Club and a Founding Member and 1st President of the Cambrian Chapter of the Heritage Club of Canada Post. Visitation for Dinty will be held in the Martyn Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 - 4:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the First Baptist Church (1250 Cassells Street) on Thursday, January 7th at 11:00 am. Spring interment at the Terrace Lawn Cemetery. If desired, donations to North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #408 (cheques only) would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
