There are so many positive and exciting things to say about Aunt Shirley. From the special visits to North Bay and Toronto to her just being with us in Winnipeg on various occasions including the passing of her sister mary Lou (mom) in 2007. What a dynamic and encouraging person with so many skills, fearless and tactful. A leader none the less. She was a magnet of energy, experienced, educated and person people were drawn too. People who knew her know these special characteristics she held. Her upbringing was unique with my mom and her parents and a story by itself. An avid reader herself, it would have been a treasure for her to have created and shared her story in a memoir/book. Wishing only that we could have spent more time together, but someday the Promise may well indeed be granted. Thoughts and prayers to all our cousins and their families at this challenging time. As Chris shared with me A Giant has Passed, she will always be cherished for her love and commitment.

Shirley was a amazing woman. I knew her from when she taught at Widdifield Highschool. Also when Shirley, while she was working for Mike Harris, went out of her way to help me when I was working, on behalf of the Rice Bay Cottagers, to relocate the four km. of Songis Road. It was always a pleasure to speak with her every time we met. I am so sorry to read that Shirley has passed away. May the memories of the wonderful times your family had with Shirley comfort you through this sad time.

There are so many stories I have that involve Shirley and figure skating. As a mother and volunteer of two figure skaters our paths crossed many times throughout the years. Shirley never missed an opportunity to let me know when my daughter had skated, what Shirley considered, well. Over the years Shirley offered advice on everything from hair to skating dresses. We ran many Make It A Date competitions together along with a team of volunteers. Shirley was kind, fair and professional as a skating judge. She was tough on the competitive skaters [she demanded more from them] and forgiving on the recreational skaters. Shirley gave so much of her time to figure skating and the North Bay club even though we knew she had other passions.
During her time as a figure skating judge Shirley touched many lives; parents, skaters, colleagues, politicians. Many of us became more than acquaintances with Shirley, we considered ourselves friends. I have many fond memories of figure skating and Shirley is a big part of those memories. I saw Shirley a couple of months ago at the grocery store and realized time does not stand still. We had a great chat and she asked what my girls were doing. I was touched she remembered them.
Thank you Shirley for the many great times at the rink and the many memories.

Shirley gave me my first "real" job in Mike's office, and I have always been grateful for the positive impact she had on me. She was a very classy lady and a great mentor. Very sad to hear of her passing.
