Obituary of Richard Prescott
Prescott, Richard (Dick) It is with great sorrow that the Prescott family announces the passing of Richard "Dick" Prescott at the North Bay Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the age of 75. Beloved husband for 53yrs of Anna Prescott (nee Foley). Cherished father of Shawn Prescott (Jenna Marasco), and his "other son" Stephan Harvey (Charlena). Grandfather to Bradly Prescott (predeceased Aug. 1, 2017) and Logan Prescott. Dick`s truest pride and joy were his son and his grandsons, with whom he shared a most special bond. Dick as a member of the Royal Canadian Navy in his youth landed in Halifax where he met the love of his life, Anna. They were married in 1964, made their home in North Bay, Ontario and started their family. Dick worked 37yrs for the North Bay Psychiatric Hospital. He was always an active member of the community and took every opportunity to give back, which he did personally and through many service organizations and associations. He served as President and Vice President with West Ferris Minor Hockey, the Northern Ontario Hockey Association, and the North Bay Optimist Club. Dick received numerous awards and recognitions over the years including: Lifetime member of West Ferris Minor Hockey and the Northern Ontario Hockey Association, The Queen`s Golden Jubilee medal, a commemorative medal for the 125th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada in recognition of significant contribution to compatriots, community and to Canada, and the Syl Apps Achievement award for distinguished contribution to amateur sport. Dick was additionally inducted into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame in 2006 in the Category of "Builder" as he was instrumental in the development of the AAA program in North Bay, and raised a record setting 2 million dollars for events such as the 1984 Air Canada National Midget Hockey Tournament, and the 1989 Ontario Winter Games. Dick is predeceased by his parents Irene Hone (Dawson) and Kenneth Prescott. He will be sadly missed by his siblings Valerie James (Warren deceased), Kay Edmonds (Bill), Ken Prescott (Madeline) and John Dawson (Mary deceased). When Dick found Anna he also found his second family, the Foleys. He is predeceased by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Emma and Arnold Foley. Also left to mourn him are Anna`s brothers and sisters; Ed Foley (deceased) - spouse Mary, Harold Foley (Anne-Marie), Paulette Foley (Mabel McCarthy); Donna Newell (Garey Mood, deceased). Additionally, "Uncle Dick" shared a very close and cherished relationship with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
