Obituary of Maurice Raymond Desilets
Maurice Raymond Desilets- (DESI)
October 29th, 1952- December 30th, 2023
Maurice passed away in Toronto on December 30, 2023 after a brief illness, at the age of 71. Maurice (Desi/ Moe) was born and raised in North Bay the son of the late Maurice and Marilyn Desilets (Chrysler)
Maurice is survived by his son Chris (Kristina), his daughter Meghan Lepkan (Stephen) and grandchildren Henry and Madeline Lepkan. He was a brother to Richard (Leah), Donald (Shelley), Rosanne Desilets, Marilyn Goodman and Christine Graham. He was predeceased by his brother Robert.
Maurice spent his work life both as a plumber and sheet metal mechanic working alongside his father at Desilets and Charette Mechanical Contractors. Honest and hard working, Maurice was known among his peers for his dedication and a strong work ethic, traits he passed down to both Chris and Meghan. Maurice lived by the adage, "if a job's worth doing, it’s worth doing well!"
As a young boy Maurice had an adventurous spirit, and spent much of his time exploring the outdoors. Camping with his young family was an opportunity to test some of his creative and innovative ideas (like the outdoor shower made with a shower curtain and a golf umbrella...it was great)! Many memories were created at the family cottage on Trout Lake and Maurice loved introducing the East Coast family to fishing especially if anyone caught a "muskie ''.
Maurice spent a number of years involved in sports playing hockey and baseball. He supported Chris and Meghan in all their events and activities, whether coaching minor hockey and baseball or cheering from the sidelines. He was in charge of making all the Halloween costumes, proving once again his creative abilities.
Maurice relocated to and retired in Toronto. He was an active and productive member of his housing community helping with social events, working in the garden, cooking and of course, when asked, fixing whatever needed fixing. Maurice was well liked and respected by all who knew him. We are grateful for his good friends Barbara Neyedly and Ambrose Healey especially for their care and support during his brief illness.
Maurice will be remembered as a kind and generous man who was always available to help anyone at any time and who always tried to see the good in people.
At his request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held in the spring and announced at a later date
Donations in his memory can be made to KidSport North Bay or to the local Food Bank. Arrangments entrusted to Martyn Funeral Home.
Loved forever by your family, Rest in Peace Maurice.
