To Eileen's family~
Today, December 21st, the date of Eileen's funeral service, is also the winter solstice-- the shortest day of the year. At Trinity, Eileen's church, we have a special service this evening called, "The Longest Night." It is a special prayer service of candle-lighting, and quiet string music in which we acknowledge that the holidays can be a difficult time for so many of us. Often it's because we have sweet holiday memories with people who are no longer with us-- which means that Christmas can be also be a time of memories, grief and pause.
Eileen was a wonderful, thoughtful, caring and classy woman who will be deeply missed. At our service tonight, I will light a candle to remember Eileen, and to pray for her many loved ones who are aching at her loss. God bless you all.

Dear Jim, Gerry, Judy, and Doug,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time. Your mom Eileen was a wonderful lady and lived her life to the fullest, both with her family and in her community. It is a remarkable feat to live for a century, so close to that 100th birthday!
