Obituary of James Adrian Steenburg
James “Jim” Steenburg, known to many as “Cricket”, passed away at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, Ontario on March 26, 2018 at the age of 67.
Raised in Trenton, Ontario, Jim was a graduate of Trenton High School and went on to earn a General Machinist Certificate from Loyalist College. He then entered the workforce as an apprentice machinist journeyman for Bata Engineering/Invar, after which he became part of management in purchasing. In 2008 Jim relocated with his wife Diane to North Bay for his semi-retirement, and spent time working at Home Depot until 2016. Always on the move, he passionately enjoyed spending his “retirement” as the second-in-command to Ray Pigeau helping to maintain the Gull Port community.
During his time in Trenton Jim was a volunteer with the Sidney West Fire Department for 19 years, retiring as captain, and was once president of the Trenton Kiwanis Club. He also loved the camaraderie of the Trenton Golf Club and could often be found on the links or in the clubhouse sharing a laugh. Jim was a very social person who made friends easily, and will forever be remembered for saying he disliked parlour games, but in the end he was often the one to have the most fun.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Diane (Gale), and their sons, Adam of Brantford, and Kevin (Sarah) of Toronto. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley.
As per Jim’s wishes, no funeral service will be held.
He will be greatly missed for his sense of humour and concern for others.
