Obituary of Robert Earl Shantz

Robert (Bob) Shantz went to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in his 88th year on April 1st at North Bay Regional Health Centre. Born October 31, 1928 in Kitchener, Ontario to Mervin and Florence (Burkhart) Shantz, Bob moved his family to North Bay in 1962 where he launched Mayco Homes. He owned and operated this construction business erecting homes, apartment buildings and condos until his retirement in 1991. He then worked on his hobby farm and in his workshop making beautiful pieces of art and furniture for his children, 18 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carol (Hallman), a brother Harold (Fern), and sisters Dorothy and Alice (Fred) Hornberg. He is pre-deceased by his brother Ralph (Marjorie, also deceased) also survived by his sister-in-law Marie (Jim) and brother-in-law Hugh Hallman. Bob’s children are Patricia (Randy) Bushey, Gloria Collier, Sandra (Jay) Calder, Anna-Marie (Rod) Brooks, and Mervin (Jennifer) Shantz. Visitation at the Martyn Funeral Home Monday, April 4th (6:30 to 8:30 pm), and Tuesday morning at Lakeshore Missionary Church, 656 Lakeshore Dr. from 9:30 am. Funeral service to follow at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to: Lakeshore Missionary Church (Missions), or to Camp Mishewah.
