My condolences to Barry's family and friends. I will very much miss bumping into him and his welcoming smile and warm handshake at the Portage and remembering past times. I was fortunate to meet Barry in the mid-70's when he provided a venue for an "open mike" night of music at the rustic Parkview Hotel every Thursday. It offered an opportunity for so many musicians to get up and play for an appreciative audience for so many years.

I am a neighbour from two doors down. If all neighbours were like Jean and Barry this world would be such a wonderful place. My heart goes out to Jean. It is only since my husband died three years ago that we have become really close. I still can't believe this news of Barry's death, in October when I left for Florida after I was chatting to him about my visit to the hospital to see Jean, he did say "Go, have fun!" My heartfelt sympathy to the family.

Sincere sympathies on behalf of the McGinn family. There was always a special connection between those folks from Orillia who had relocated to North Bay, such as the Bywaters and the McGinns. But I will always first and foremost remember Mr Bywater as "Shelley's dad" because of course Shelley was my favorite babysitter growing up just around the corner from the Bywaters in the Pinewood area in the 1970s. My other memory of Mr Bywater was that it seemed that any time as a kid that I was with my mom or dad at the Royal Bank on North Bay's Main St, we would always seem to run into Mr Bywater whose I've learned since had his business nearby. He would always make such a fuss over me, which I appreciate to this day. I just shared the news of his passing with my father Jim McGinn who is currently in Florida and will therefore not be able to make it in time to pay respects. I didn't realize until this recent conversation that my dad and Mr Bywater were actually in High School together in Orillia. Had I known that, I might have sought out stories many years ago!! My sincere condolences to the entire Bywater family, on behalf of my dad Jim and my sister Erin.

Hi My Dear Barry. I am at work (like always), lol and missing not having you next to me to converse and socialize with. Since your passing I feel so lost without you. Thank you for your unconditional friendship and your shared wisdom with me for over 30 years. You were my strength, my adviser, my business partner, my travel partner, my true and best friend. You will be missed for the wonderful memories that you have left me with. You taught me so very much, diplomacy, respect and a love for family as well as a love for life. Barry, you are missed by me and so many others. Thank you for having always been my friend. Your friend Norm.

Jean, Shelley, Nancy, Melanie, Blain, Brent and Family. My deepest sympathies on Barry's passing. What a fantastic human being. I can't remember the first time I met him but it was a long time ago through my Dad but will always remember how kind, gentle and caring Barry was throughout the time I have known him. When I ran Palmar Pool Leagues with Bonnie, I got to know Barry very well and always enjoyed our conversations and the many laughs we shared over the years I was involved with the VNEA and Partner's. Though I have not seen Barry since moving out west, he will always be remembered as a person with a very kind soul who always had time for you and made you feel special when you were around him. Here's to your daily table runs in heaven and your many eights on the break!! RIP my friend!
