Obituary of Carol Ann Mantha

MANTHA (nee Folz): Carol Ann It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that we announce the death of Carol Ann (nee Folz) Mantha. She died suddenly on Sunday, March 19th, at Centennial Place in Millbrook, Ontario in the presence of her daughter Bev in her 77th year. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Gerry, in 2003. Carol was the much-loved mom of Bev Aitkenhead (John), Monica Forte (Nick), and Caroline Chartrand (Reg). She was the treasured Nanny of Micheal and Cailey Aitkenhead; Jenny, Mitch, and Diana Forte; and Brittany Mantha-Chartrand. She loved and was very proud of her four brothers: Frank (Blanca), Richard (Donna), Don (Adele), and Robert (Anna-Mary) Folz, and she enjoyed hearing news of ,and visiting with, her many nieces and nephews. She had a special relationship with her husband Gerry’s siblings and their children, and she looked forward to poker parties where she would enjoy an evening of “from the belly” laughter! Carol was the only daughter of Charles and Flora Folz; she adored her parents and she prayed to them often for strength during her many months of illness and struggle; their presence was felt in the grace with which she bore her suffering. Mom was devoted to us. Many of our memories involve playing in mom’s bedroom while she created beautiful clothes for us on her Singer sewing machine. She loved to pick berries, and she would preserve anything she could get her hands on! An avid swimmer, she would take us swimming in the mornings, after lunch, and in the evenings. She loved being a Nanny and she showered her Grandchildren with all of her love and prayers. Mom’s passing is truly the end of an era for us, but we take real pleasure knowing that she is with Dad again. What a beautiful re-union that must have been! We want to thank all of the people who cared for mom during her long illness, especially the staff at Centennial Place in Millbrook, Marina Point, the nurses on D3, and Dr. Ian Cowan. Visitation for Carol will be held in the Martyn Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption on Friday, March 24th at 2:00 P.M. Cremation will follow the service, with interment of ashes this spring at the Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will gratefully accept donations for Nipissing Serenity Hospice and The Heart and Stroke Foundation (cheques only).
