Obituary of Lillian Adele Ryerse

RYERSE – Lilian Adele After a life well lived and following a brief illness Lilian Ryerse (nee Foster) died peacefully at the North Bay Regional Health Centre early Monday morning, March 20, 2017, at the age of 99 years. For 67 years she was the beloved and cherished wife of the late Wilfred W. “Wilf” Ryerse. He predeceased her in 2010. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughters and sons- in- law, Judith Ingwersen (Bill) of North Bay, and Dr. Cynthia Ryerse (Dr. Joe Ferencz) of Ancaster. Lilian was blessed with grandchildren Tanya (Graham Mewett), Sarah (Paul Leadbitter), Christopher “Chris” and Jonathan “Jay” and with great grandchildren Elizabeth, Alice, David, Roslyn and Molly. She was predeceased by her siblings Violet, John “Bus”, Agnes and Ron. Lilian and Wilf moved to North Bay in 1945 where she has been an active member of her community ever since. She has been a devoted member of First Baptist Church since arriving in North Bay. For many years she taught Sunday School in her own home, helped to establish the Douglas Street Baptist Mission, and after its closing continued to give her time and talents to First Baptist Church on Cassells Street. She was a valued member of the Mission Circle and the W.A. Lilian had a wonderful sense of humour and fun. She will be remembered for the many skits and plays she produced with, and for, her church family and friends. Always thinking of others, she offered whatever help and support she could to enrich the lives of those around her. Whether it was Vietnamese refugees, a sick neighbour or friend, or someone just struggling, she was there to give her compassion and support. An exceptionally gifted seamstress, knitter, quilter and artist she has left many treasures for her family. Into her 80’s she walked several kilometers every day and even roller skated to church on occasion. Hosting family celebrations (especially turkey dinners), spending time at the cottage, and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great joy. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by those who knew her. In keeping with her wishes she will be cremated. There will be a celebration of her life held in St. Andrew's United Church, at 11:00am on Saturday May 6, 2017. Rev. Jane Howe officiating. Interment of ashes will follow in the family plot in Union Cemetery. If desired, donations to honour Lilian's memory may be made to Operation Eyesight, First Baptist Church North Bay or the charity of your choice and will be be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
