Obituary of Donald Kenneth Humphrey

Humphrey, Donald Kenneth With heavy hearts the family announce his sudden passing on January 6th, 2016 at his home having tea with the love of his life. Born, February 28th, 1931, Don was dearly loved and will be forever missed by his wife Joy (nee Passmore). They celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary on November 25th, 2015. He was a much loved and loving Dad to Brenda Laughlin (Dennis) of North Bay, Steven (Joyce) of Marathon, Kim Seamen (Greg) and Randy (Carolle) all of North Bay. He was the very proud Grandpa Don to grandchildren Craig Vanier (Jenn) of North Bay, Chris Vanier (Vera) of Dartmouth, N.S., Brent Humphrey of Ottawa, Allan Humphrey (Lisa Smelt) of London, Alicia Humphrey (Johann Prager) of Thunder Bay, Scott Humphrey and Shawn Humphrey both of North Bay and great grandchildren Mikayla, Evan, Kailyn, Madilyn & Isabella. “Donny”, as they called him will be fondly remembered by his extended Humphrey / Gleason family. Don was raised on the family farm in Powassan where he also attended school. He started working at a young age and at 18 he began his career in the automotive industry at Harvey - Seal Motors. He retired from Bestway Truck Centre in 1989. He very much loved his time spent at family cottages over the years. He also enjoyed woodworking in his garage and gardening. After 59 years on High Street he and Joy moved to the ONR Building on Oak St. E. where he took pleasure in playing pool, darts & cards as well as doing crosswords with Mom. His TV time was spent watching Blue Jay baseball games, golf and motor racing. He was happiest when surrounded by Joy and the family. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, Wednesday January 13, 2016 at Martyn Funeral Home. A celebration of Don’s life will be held at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 401 First Ave. W. Thursday January 14, 2016 at 11:00 am, Rev Frances Savill officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or the North Bay Regional Health Centre will be gratefully acknowledged by the Family. www.martynfh.com
