Obituary of Jane Ellen Courtney

Passed away peacefully at Cassellholme in North Bay, Ontario on Wednesday December 16, 2015 in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late John (Jack) Courtney, predeceased July 5, 1977. Loving mother of Jim Courtney (Mary), John Courtney (Jean), and Jeff Courtney (Liz). Loving grandmother of Jonathan, Alison, Joel, John Jacob, Steven and Andrew. Predeceased by her brothers and sisters Helen (late John Garson), Alex (late Gladys), Robert (late Ruth), Mary (late William Garson) and Ilene (late Wilf (Mac) MacDonald). Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Jane had a long and rewarding career in nursing, starting in WWII with the RCAF, later in North Bay at the North Bay Civic Hospital and then with the Red Cross and VON doing home visits. Jane and Jack were married on March 25, 1950 and began their life together in Trenton, Ontario. Her favourite place was at her cottage on beautiful Rice Bay on Lake Talon, enjoying the visits of friends, special times with her family, the local wildlife and the serenity. She was a woman who knew what she wanted in life and most times, she got it. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family would like to acknowledge the extraordinary care and attention provided by the staff of Cassellholme, and in particular the Apple wing team. Also, special thanks to Janet and her group of compassionate private caregivers who sat with Jane over her final days.
