Obituary of James Thomas McCarthy

McCarthy – James “Jim” It is with sorrow, we announce the death of James “Jim” McCarthy, peacefully on Monday November 2nd, 2015 in Ottawa. Jim was born in North Bay on August 1st, 1926, son of Thomas and Winnifred McCarthy and brother of the late Reg (Thelma). Jim married Margaret (Johnson) in 1948. Predeceased by Marg in 1985, Jim was the loving partner and best friend of Eileen Taylor. He is the beloved father of Joan (Bob Belecque), Barrie, Nancy (predeceased), Beth (Rod Stone) London, and Karen (Ralph Beaudoin) Ottawa. Proud grandfather of Rob (Kim) Belecque, Nancy (Jeff) Texmo, Chris McCarthy, Katy Kent (Zach Moore), Alex Beaudoin (Bill Gelinas), and Emily Beaudoin (Justin Lacelle). Great grandfather of Joel and Lucas Texmo. Fondly remembered by the Taylor family. Aside from a stint in the Navy, Jim was a proud lifelong resident of North Bay. He worked as a General Stores Manager at the Ontario Northland Railroad for many years. Following his retirement, Jim enjoyed golf, travel and spending time with his family. He was a long time member of Branch 23, Royal Canadian Legion, North Bay and in his younger years, an active volunteer. In his later years, he proudly served on the annual Poppy Campaign. He was a member of Trinity United Church and the Naval Association. Friends may call at Martyn Funeral Home on Friday morning, November 6th from 10:00am to 11:30 am. The Legion will honor Jim with a service at 11:30, followed immediately by funeral services, conducted by Rev. Ted Harrison. Reception to follow with interment in Terrace Lawn Cemetery. The family wish to thank the staff of Marina Point, Cindy and Rebecca from Preferred Care, Ann and the staff at CCAC, and staff at Veteran’s Affairs Canada for the support and care provided to Dad.
