Obituary of Candis Gay Stott
STOTT, CANDIS GAY –
Passed away peacefully at the North Bay Regional Health Center on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 from complications at the end of a five-year battle with cancer. Born on December 1, 1945 to Ivan and Joan (née Pratt) Andres, she was the cherished wife of Derek Stott and loving mother of Andy (Maria) of Toronto, Meribeth (Matt) Burley of Omemee, and D’Arcie of North Bay. Loving sister of Scott Andres (Kara) of South River and Doug Andres of Bolton, Ont. Fondly remembered by nephews and nieces (Zane and Lara Andres of Toronto, Grant Stott of Peterborough, Trisha Stott of Shawnigan Lake B.C., and Paul Duchart of Vancouver B.C.). She was the devoted grandmother of Ariel Candis.
Candy began her career as a Registered Nurse in 1971. In 1985 she took time to raise her family, then worked as an educational assistant until her retirement. For almost thirty years she was enthusiastically involved with Scouts Canada, working her way from a Cub Leader to the position of Council Commissioner for the Northern Ontario Council. Besides Scouting, her other “most favourite thing” was playing the bagpipes, not only for the Legion Branch 23 North Bay Pipes and Drums, but also for two other Ontario pipe bands that toured Scotland on several occasions. She was proud of her Scottish heritage (Clan Cunningham) and never passed on the opportunity to sip a wee dram of the highland malt!
Candy played trumpet in the J.O.Y Band, was a member of the Rapport Singers on North Bay, a past member of the Near North Voices, and sang in the alto section of the St. Andrew’s Church choir. She always found time to express her artistic flair through many other hobbies such as sewing, quilting, card-making, stained glass art and cooking. She was also a licensed ham radio operator (VE3SCN). Candy lived life to the fullest and her goal was always to keep herself joyfully busy no matter what obstacles she faced - an inspiration for us all.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts would be very much appreciated. The family is suggesting the Northern Cancer Research Foundation (Sudbury), Nipissing Area Scouts - Camp Wirribara Fund (c/o Norm Giroux, 612 Robarts Ave., North Bay, ON P1B 7E4, 705-495-1032), or the St. Andrews United Church Memorial Fund (www.standrews-northbay.ca/donate.html)
The funeral service will be at 11 am (visitation 9:00 – 10:45 am) on Friday June 5th at St. Andrew’s United Church, North Bay. A reception at the church will follow, with afternoon interment at Union Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Martyn Funeral Home. Online condolences may be offered at www.martynfh.com.
