On behalf of the staff and board of Laurentian Ski Hill please accept our condolences on the loss of your husband and father. Bob was an important part of the history of skiing in this area and was, for many years, a fixture on our hill. His contributions were notable and appreciated and recognized years ago when he became one of our Lifetime Members. On a personal note, I remember Bob fondly from the number of years he was head of Laurentian Ski Patrol and I was a patroller. It was a wonderful organization and Bob ran it with an eye to making it fun and sociable while never forgetting its primary importance of providing first aid and safety on the hill. We know he will be missed my many, our thoughts are with you.

Bob was my Dad's best friend. As a result, Bob was also one of those people that had been a part of my life since I was a yongster. When I came tearing down the ski hill when I was about 10 years old and crashed into the line up for the T-bar at Laurentian, who did I run into? Bob, my Dad, Bruce Martin and Bill Beattie, all LSC Directors, who were waitng in line to go up the hill. When I went away for a week long ski instructors course in Thunder Bay when I was 18, Bob was a fellow student and we travelled there together by train and shared a hotel room for a week.
Bob (know as "Mr. Wonderful" in our family circle) and my Dad did a lot of work together to help make Laurentian Ski Club and Mount Antoine a reality. They took numerous ski trips together and enjoyed work and play together as friends for more than 50 years. Sailing was also a part that shared life experience. I have a very fond memory of the last time that I went sailing with my Dad in his boat - Bob was also along for the ride, both in their eary 80s. We sailed from Hunters Bay out to the Manitou Islands on a sunny day with a nice wind. The two them were both keen and energetic to start, but by the time we had lunch (and the two guys more than one beer each) at the islands, the afternoon sailing became my complete responsibility as the stories of skiing and sailing experiences flowed from the very relaxed pair sharing the boat with me - two captains and one lacky to do the work of trimming sails and manning the helm!
My more recent encounters with Bob (and Sheila) have been on the occassions when we have gone to the Ram's Head restaurant in Calendar. On each occassion, we were sure to find Bob there with Sheila, the Ram's Head being Bob's favourite place to go when it came to his turn to cook dinner.
Thanks for the memories Bob! Goodbye to the person my Dad considered his best friend.
