Obituary of Charlotte Madeleine Ames
AMES: Charlotte Madeleine (nee Lefebvre) 1919-2014
Peacefully, surrounded by her family both near and far, on Friday, October 31st, 2014, in her 96th year. Beloved wife of the late James Henry Ames. Dear and devoted mother of Rosemary Bubnic (Lee), George (Linda) and Michele Burrows (Jim). Loving grandmother of Andrea Egan (Andrew), Alissa Nichols (Darrin), Matthew Nichols (Lindsay), Marina de Luna (Isaac), Patrick Ames (Julia), Jamie Cable (Ashleigh), Jeff Cable, Graham Burrows, and Taylor Burrows. She was Grandma to some of them, Mémé to the others and GG to her darling great grandchildren Henry, Hazel, Emma, Emmanuelle, Victoria, Jonah and Carolina.
Born in Paris, France, Charlotte was a B.A. and M.A. graduate of the Sorbonne University and came to Canada in 1947 as a war bride. She was one of the seven founding members of Nipissing University where she taught as Head of the French Department until her retirement in 1979.
Charlotte travelled extensively around the world and although she returned frequently to France to visit friends and relatives, she called Canada her home. Her family was her whole life, especially after the death of her beloved Jimmie. She was an avid bridge player and for many years was a member of the North Bay Duplicate Bridge Club. Charlotte was also an active member of Calvin Presbyterian Church.
Charlotte’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to the wonderful staff of Eastholme Home for the Aged. The loving and compassionate way in which she was cared for will never be forgotten.
Family will receive friends at the Martyn Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held at Calvin Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 11:00 am. Cremation to follow.
