Obituary of Wayne Thomas Harwood

HARWOOD - Wayne Thomas "Tom" Peacefully with his family, Tom died at the North Bay Regional Health Centre on Sunday September 15, 2013 after a courageous battle with ALS at the age of 68. For the past 45 years he has been the devoted and loving husband of Rita (nee Geisler). The proud and loving father of Shawn Harwood (Jori Maxwell) of Callander, and Stacy Harwood of North Bay he will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Joseph and Mya Ella Certossi, and Cameron and Rhett Harwood. Born and raised in North Bay Tom was the son of the late Cecil and Dorothy Harwood. He will be fondly remembered by his sisters Lil Darbyshire of Prince George, B.C., and Judy Faulkner of North Bay, and brothers Sam (Helene) of Burlington, and Jim (Louise) of North Bay. Tom was a custodian for the Near North District School Board and will be remembered by many for his work at Chippewa Secondary School. He retired in 2003 after 34 years of service with the Board. An avid golfer, he enjoyed the time spent with his golf buddies. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to celebrate his life at the Elk's Club, 325 Elks Lane on Thursday evening, September 19, from 5 - 9 pm. The Harwood family express their sincerest thank you to the ALS Society and the CCAC for the exceptional care and support given during Tom's illness. The kindness and care offered by Sarah and the nursing staff on D3 at the NBRHC will never be forgotten.
