Obituary of Dorothy Catharine Hogan

HOGAN – Dorothy Catharine The Hogan family sadly announces Dorothy’s death, peacefully at her home with her daughter at her side, on Monday February 11, 2013, at the age of 93. Dorothy (nee Joy) was the devoted and beloved wife of the late James Hogan. He predeceased her in 1995. The proud and loving mother of Glenda Mikawa (late Nagashi), she will also be lovingly remembered by her granddaughters Lori Burns (John McNutt) and Kim Rivet (Andre), both of North Bay, and Tara Burns Brown (Mark Brown) of Singapore, and her great grandchildren Julia Rivet, & Ben & Jake Burns Brown. Dorothy is also survived by her brother Ken (Goldie) of Petrolia, and her sister Frances Tripp of Tillsonburg. As well as her parents Walter and Ellen Joy, she was predeceased by her brothers Frank and Lloyd and sister Alma. Dorothy led a full and interesting life. James’s career took them to many places throughout the world. They lived on several continents and always took the opportunity to explore the countries they lived in. In the mid 1950’s they moved to North Bay and remained here until building a home in Powassan. They returned to North Bay in 1994. Dorothy had a wide variety of interests and talents. She enjoyed skiing and curling in the winter was an avid golfer, and enjoyed sewing and crafts. A gifted stain glass artist she created many pieces that will become family treasures. A dedicated wife and mother her granddaughters where her pride and joy and she treasured all of her family. Cremation has taken place. Friends may call at the Martyn Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon and evening from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 pm. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held in First Baptist Church at 11:00am Friday February 15th, 2013. If desired donations to the North Bay Regional Centre Diagnostic Imaging Fund or the Alzheimer’s Society will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy. Dorothy’s family are especially grateful for the care she received through Paramed and CCAC, and offer their thanks to all the wonderful caregivers who have cared for and supported Dorothy .
