WALL: Dr. Charles Banting
A long-time North Bay family doctor, Charles Banting Wall passed away peacefully at Cassellholme on Sunday, Oct. 14 at the age of 89. Charles was born in Toronto in 1923, raised in Georgetown, Acton and Port Elgin and served with the RCAF from 1942 to 1945. He married Phyllis Mallett (d. 2003) in 1951 and graduated from the University of Western Ontario Medical School in 1953. After three years of practice in Niagara Falls, Charles moved his young family to North Bay in 1957 and set up a family practice that he maintained until the age of 65. He then served as a staff physician at the North Bay Psychiatric Hospital until his retirement at age 80 in 2003. Charles is survived by his loving partner Gladys Salidas and six children: Duncan (Kathy) of England; Stephen (Laura) of London, Ont.; Donald (Karin) of Hamilton; Megan (Richard) of Brooklyn, NY; Jane (Sally) of Toronto; and Thomas (Rebecca) of Whitby; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters Dave (Simcoe), Alice (Milton), Cathy (Kitchener) and Bob (Guelph). Besides Phyllis, he is predeceased by sister Joan and brother Bill. The Walls will greet friends and family at Martyn Funeral Home from 2-4:00 PM on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
