I first met Harv in Temagami, the year was 1989. I was fresh out of college and employed as a Fish and Wildlife technician with the MNR. Harv was a seasoned veteran, with years of fieldwork under his belt. Harv was employed as a biologist with the MNR.
Anybody in the "business" knows that biologists and technicians never see eye to eye....actually, fairly sure biologists don't see eye to eye with anyone (just say'in).
Harv was certainly an exception to the rule. Being quiet and reserved, you almost had to pry Harv for his opinion. When Harv did put forth his two cents, it actually meant something, because he had the background to support it.
In the Spring of 1989 Harv lead an extensive trap netting/tagging project on Lake Temiskaming. With several staff involved, it went without so much as a glitch. The reason, Harv's calm, collective approach to everything he did, and the fact he treated people with respect....ya, even the technicians.
Harv and I sat across from each other for approximately 4 years. There were a lot of comments, jokes and maybe even a bit of harassment (mainly in regards to VW vs. Chev products), all in good fun and all still good memories.
I was also fortunate enough to meet Harvs better side, Joanne Hambly (sp?). Joanne was equally as talented as Harv, having the ability to laugh, smile and take every day in stride.
Harv and Joanne even taught me how to waterski (behind the Valdeze)on Callandar Bay....lots of laughing that day !!
I would always try and stop in for a quick visit at the Mitig office when in the area. Even some 20 + years after we first met, Harv seemed to never change a bit...a trait that I was happy to see ... even for a biologist !
Well respected ...fondly remembered... and never forgotten.
Thanks for the memories Harv, and if you had to do it all over again, I know you would want to work in a GM plant, building quality...gas guzzling vehicles :)

How sad to lose such a great guy, almost unimaginable. Harv will be greatly missed - his easy going way, his quirky comments, great wit, easy conversation, and storehouse of knowledge.

Things I remember about my best-buddy, Harv: the cardboard boxes he let me play with -- always with a treat inside ("best toy EVER"), doing trix for carrots, the hurdles he made for me when I was a young and crazy puppy, the cubes of cheese he fed me after my evening insulin shots, the car rides uptown (when I got older and lazier) so I only had to walk one way on my evening saunter, all the scratches and rubs he gave me, the afternoons at Watson's Cove playing Clam. I could go on and on! Thoose were the days, my friend. I miss you, Harv. XXWOOF!!! from Watson.

Harvey often found himself in the middle of heated debates between Tony and I at the office - and I remember quite distinctly during many of them - looking over and noticing the corners of his smile showing as he calmly listened to his office mates battle it out. His tolerance for our hot heads was what balanced our small group in Callander. I am thankful for that. Harvey was always keen to chat and I fondly recall our discussions about VW jettas, wii Rock Band and old clunker computers very much. He was a great guy, who taught me a few things in life and will certainly be missed.

I will remember the laughs that Harv, Tony and I shared working together in the Calander office, often solving most of the world's problems in the process. Until we meet again, Harv! John
