Obituary of Margaret Gaynor Mannering
Mannering - Margaret (Peg) Gaynor
December 3, 1924 – September 7, 2012
Born in Compton, California she moved to Toronto at age 2 with her parents, Margaret and Walter Green and brothers Bill and Bud. She was raised by her grandparents in Malton and spent the war years employed at Geico in Leaside making ammunition. She met her husband Murray’s family in Malton and she and Murray were married August 20, 1949.
Peg spent her working life in Toronto first at Eatons, then many years at CIBC. She was in constant contact with her brothers and their families as well as Murray’s brothers, Walt, Warren and Grant and their families. She also traveled on a regular basis to the Gaynor hometown of Rodney, Ontario.
After Murray passed away in July 13, 1986, she moved to North Bay with her son Scott and his wife Sandy, where she spent her last 22 years happily being Grandma to Kelly, Brett and Guy, and great grandma (GG) to Devin and Ryelee.
Peg was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening, TV, and volunteering at the hospital. Sharp as a tack, with a keen sense of wit and humour, she enjoyed recounting and discussing current events.
Just before she passed, “Grandma” said she felt she got more than she gave in life, and that her time living in North Bay were her happiest years. And, pragmatic as always, told us not to cry, that ‘all good things come to an end’. We love you Mom, and know the angels are around you and your loved ones as you begin your new journey of peace and happiness. In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place. If desired donations to the north Bay Regional Health Centre will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy. Arrangements entrusted to Martyn Funeral Home with online condolences at www.martynfh.com.
