Obituary of Rilla Ann Marie Cottrill

Peacefully at Cassellholme, on Monday October 15, 2012 at the age of 78. For the past 57 years Rilla had been the devoted and loving wife of Beverly James “BJ” Cottrill, whom predeceased her August 6 of this year. Rilla was the proud and loving mother of Jim of North Bay, Chris (Carolyn) of Penticton B.C., June DaSilva (Kevin) of Barrie, and Cathy Laslo, (John) who predeceased Rilla April 28, 2012. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Garrett and Cody Cottrill, Jeff, Jordan, and Kristy DaSilva and Ben Laslo. Sh was also predeceased by her granddaughter Rebeka Laslo. She will be sadly missed by her brothers Morley Thomson (Helen) of Barrie, late Brock Thomson (Joan) of Sudbury, Paul Thomson (late Kit) of Alberta and Peter Thomson(Pat) of North Bay. Rilla came to North Bay in 1954 and the following spring she and BJ were married. For several years Rilla worked as an operator for Bell Telephone then following the birth of her children she became a stay at home Mom. A wonderful wife and mother she also took time to volunteer at the YMCA, helping disabled children learn to swim. A faithful Christian she was a dedicated member of the Gospel Hall, and volunteered many years at Cassellholme. She treasured her grandchildren and time spent with them. A talented quilter she produced a baby quilt for each new family arrival. For over twenty years she has struggled with Parkinson’s disease, and for the past several years dementia. Her failing health necessitated her move to Cassellholme. Friends may call at the Martyn Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6 – 8 pm. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday October 19th at 1:00pm. Interment to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. If desired and in lieu of flowers donations to the Parkinson Society will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
