Obituary of Gerald Rene Backer

Peacefully at Eastholme on Saturday April 21st, 2012 after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, at the age of 75. Enduring his loss is his loving wife Della (nee Currie), and his daughters Jodi Maxwell (Daniel), and Jama Leblond (Mike). He was the proud Grandpa to Barrett, Liam, Benoit, Micheline, Connor, Colton, and Shane. Survived by his brothers Dwayne (Pauline), and Paul. He will be missed by his many family and friends. Predeceased by his parents Clarence Backer and Valeda Morin, and his special Aunt Dora and Uncle Gerald Gunning. Gerald was employed as a Conductor at the CPR for over 40 years, and was Treasurer of the United Transportation Union for 20 years. He and his wife Della proudly owned and operated Twilight Camp in Eau Claire for 34 years. Friends may call at MARTYN & SLOAN “Mattawa Chapel” on Tuesday, April 24th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 25th at 11 a.m. at St. Anne’s Parish. Interment at St. Theresa’s Cemetery, Eau Claire.
