My deepest condolences to Ruth's family. As always in life, the passing of a friend, is difficult to accept, how difficult it must be for the Loved ones, that cherished Ruth as a loving and devoted wife and mother. I've met Ruth only last year on-line but over time, we did exchange a few personal happenings and what impressed me most, was her willingness to share her kindness, her love for life and my fondest memory was, when she wrote.... I really like to meet you in person... She knew and understood, that may take some time do to my health issues, but we agreed, when the time comes, I will let her know and 'pop in' for tea, when coming down her way. That now will never happen. I will always cherish the very short 'contact' I've had with Ruth and I know, that she will continue in Heaven, what she left off on this earth. Rest in peace, my friend and when I listen to the soft summer wind rustling through my garden, I know, it will be you, letting us know, you are still with all of us.

The Book of Ruth By Sheila Pratt Rothenberg
Like the biblical Matriarch
You lived an epic life
Full of change, challenge and pain
Rising to each onslaught
As a leader would do
With dignity, compassion and beauty
With laughter, kindness and warmth.
Who could not appreciate your Scottish hospitality?
Tea, homemade banana bread, a Sunday meal
Welcoming the lonely, the disenfranchised
I know. I was one of them.
To your family table
Sharing your bounty...at a moment's notice.
Always there when I called
Always ready to raise me up
Out of my depths of despair.
Feisty you were, not always able to remain close
But, LOVE always brought you back to me
To the world, to those with no voice.
Autumn colours, shades of the natural world
A true Earth Mother
For you were a Capricorn mountain goat
Climbing the steepest and most rugged of heights
Scaling them to the very top, the acme, the apex
Where you could view the world with wonder and awe.
Your passion for beauty translated into a world of art
Painting, pottery, weaving
Photograpy, Pastels, Fractals
You were fascinated by the LIGHT
How it played out in your art
Your soul
Those fractals in Heaven must be a thrill!
How I looked forward to showing you my twinkly city
My Victoria...where I now live so well
To sharing, with you, my abundant life
My wonderful friends, my creative endeavors
To delight, once again, in the joy of your artistic soul
Your devoted friendship
My forever soul sister.
I will miss you all the days of my life.
Even more, I will miss 'us'.
The Book of Ruth is not yet complete.
Her profound legacy will live itself out
In the lives of her beloved family
In their closeness, as they draw near
To mourn their loss, remember her teachings
And carry on with her courage.
It's there in each and every one of them, her beloved family
This courage.
She knows this
That is why she can rest in peace.

I met Ruth and her family when we were building our homes in Beaucage. We sat on a committee and had lots of fun. We drank a lot of tea - spent a lot of time talking and mostly we just shared our lives. She called me over a year ago and I just never got around to calling her back because I thought I'd have lots of time. Well time is precious and I'm sorry I didn't call her back. I am so sorry David and kids for your loss my heart goes out to you in this very sad time from Royal and Cathy Brazeau

My sympathies are with you David and family. I was so shocked to see that Ruth had passed away, I don't know what to say. I met Ruth through another woman and was out to your home to visit once. We then decided to work together on weekends at a garage sale in the log cabin. Ruth was a very honest, open woman and of course, very very talented. But what I remember her for most was her love of her family. She was so proud to talk about all of you, concerned about matthew's health, and at the time of her daughter who was overseas. This is a great loss for you all, and I can only hope that the fun, happy memories will one day overshadow this pain. Again David, Matthew, Patricia, Alex and Victoria, my heart goes out to you in this terrible loss.

It is obvious what a special and talented person she was, I feel blessed to have been able to haven known her for even the short time I did. My deepest condolences to her husband and children, I hope that the joy she brought so many people through her art and personality brings you some comfort.

It is never easy to say goodbye to another person, and in this case I find it even more difficult. Ruth was not only a very close and dear friend but a colleague and a mentor. A bright light within the world has gone out and her beauty will be missed, but from her talents, she has left us all with a lasting remembrance with her artwork. Dave, Matt, Patricia, Alex and Victoria.. I am deeply sorry for the sorrows you are all feeling. You will all be in my thoughts through this. My Grandmother -Winnie Quinlan- wished me to extend my condolences to you all, and to tell you that Ruth will be placed on the prayer list at her parish in Newfoundland. Love Angela
