Obituary of Albert Edward Coates

Coates : Albert Edward (Sept. 19th, 1919 – Jan. 23rd, 2012) Albert (Al) has passed away after living an active and independent 92 years. He was the beloved husband of the late Marjorie (Giles) father of Robert and Sharon, son in laws Bill Schmidt and Bill Diamond, Papa to Greg, Josh, Jordan and Jocelyn. Al has been a long time resident of the Callander and North Bay area and a well-known patron of many area restaurants and the Canadian Legions in Callander and North Bay. Dad was known for his love of dancing and his friendly manner and humor, always with a smile and a sly wink. Dad’s dancing hands was his trade mark and he will be truly missed by his family, friends and the many acquaintances. Al was a WWII veteran and pilot in the RCAF with 25 years’ service, stationed in Trenton Ont., St Hubert Que., and Summerside, PEI, and then transitioning to Dehaviland in Toronto and finishing his working life with Canada Post. He was very fortunate to retire in 1983 and move to Callander where he enjoyed good health and independent living until his recent decline in health. We will all miss your laughter and that certain sparkle in your eye when you thought something was good and we take comfort in knowing you have lived a full and active life. Rest in peace …until we meet again! Visitation and Memorial Service begin at 2pm with service at 3pm and held at Martyn’s Funeral Home in North Bay on Sat Jan 28.
