I first met Joe at the Presbyterian Church, Main st, North Bay, On. Gamers day in 1984. As a teenager, and new to wargaming, I was astounded by the width and breadth of Joe's knowledge of WWII Naval warfare. There was a naval wargame, which encompassed a large portion of the gymnasium floor. The masts on Joe's ships having been broken during past games had been replaced by straight pins, both for aesthetic effect and the defence of the model, since you didn't dare step on them twice. He was his usual, jovial self that day and his easy, open style, made himself readily accessable. Through him, I met several people that day who would shape my youth and open a new world of learning and purpose. At his many apartements, Joe never did have an eye for realestate, epic battle were faught, friendships were forged, and a few arguments were expressed. I cannot imagine the wealth of knowledge and joy that I would have missed, had I not met Joe Pedskalny. His sense of humour, and infectious attitude will forever be his hallmark. KID COLT FOREVER!

I share in the sadness at the loss of Joe, and wholeheartedly agree with the use of "gentle soul" to describe him. I haven't seen him in 26 or 27 years, since meeting him in North Bay one time, but of course, I'll always cherish the memories of being on Reach for the Top with him, Ann, Jamie Tappenden and Gerry Trottier. We were a force to be reckoned with, and Joe was a large part of that. I hope there in comfort in knowing that whatever challenges Joe faced in life, they are now over. R.I.P. Joe. Sincerely, Bob P.S. Please keep me informed about details on Joe's memorial service.

Please accept my deepest condolences. I have very fond memories of Joe as a classmate and fellow Reach For The Top teammate. He had a wide knowledge of history and a gentle soul. I always smile when I think of Joe saying "Hyah, Mule!" as he moved the knight across the chessboard! He and you are in my thoughts.

Joe was a kind and gentle friend of the first order. Generous with his time and love of others. Having left North Bay, and not having seen him in several years, meant missing his enthusiasm and tremendous fellowship, he made everyone feel welcome in his home and was a respectful and joyous guest as well. Despite the time and distance I felt a great kinship with Joe and regret that we didn't get to say hello or goodbye again. I know he felt a great loss in having tragically lost his sister, Margret, Happy to those fortunate enough to know her. His account of her untimely death was chilling to me, but something of a relief I think to Joe, who wanted desperately to recount the events in order to keep her memory alive. I hope that they will somehow keep each other company, and in good spirits through the journey to eternity. In the end, Joe was more than a friend, he was a mentor, a fellow student of learning, a collector and worthy ally, or adversary as the circumstances dictated. Through Joe I met many worthy friends and learned a great deal. I have missed him for many years, and will continue to do so for all the days of my life. Farewell, my friend.

All of my memories of Joe are fond ones. Since the day I met him he has been nothing but good cheer, laughter, and a deep well of knowledge about just about everything. It didn't matter if it was a baseball game, a bogart film, the superbowl, war documentary, or a story out of legend, sitting there with Joe didn't make me feel stupid, he made me feel like I knew everything, through him. We've all lost a large friend, and a small piece of our world.
