Obituary of Thomas Gordon Robinson
Robinson - Gordon
Peacefully passed away January 23 at Cassellholme in his 96th year, following a brief illness. Beloved and dedicated husband to Birte (Nielsen), who predeceased him in 2010. Loving father to Terry (Mary Neo) of Ottawa and Liz Arnew (Rene Charette) of North Bay. Cherished Grampa to Jasna (Kevin Wright) and Kara Robinson, and Kirsten and Sarah Arnew. Will be missed by his nieces and nephews. Gord (“Pinky” to his old friends) was born in 1922 and grew up in Winnipeg and later in Peterborough. He served with the RCAF during WWII with Coastal Command in West Africa. He enjoyed a long career in mining exploration, working for Geophysical Engineering (now Teck Resources) for 26 years and for Boart Longyear for 17 years. An avid outdoorsman, Gord enjoyed canoeing, camping, cross-country skiing, family picnics, many sports and especially gardening. He and Birte shared a love of ballroom dancing and big band music. Gord was an active member of Trinity United Church, 406 Wing, Legion Branch 23 and North Bay & District Cardiac Fitness. The family thanks CCAC for assisting him at home, PHARA for providing transition support, and Cassellholme for their care during his final year. Friends are welcomed for the visitation at Martyn Funeral Home on Friday, February 2 from 6pm-8pm. Funeral service will be on Saturday, February 3 at 11am in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to Trinity United Church would be appreciated.
