Obituary of Leona May Kervin

KERVIN (nee Soucie): Leona - in her 82nd year, passed away from cancer peacefully at her home in North Bay. Leona was the beloved wife of Jerry Kervin (deceased), much loved mother of Joanna, Michael (Margaret), Barbara Hebert (Ken) and Keith (Louise) and cherished Granny to Katlyn, Julia, Andre, Kelly, Scott, Lucy, Marc, John, Jason, Bill, Chris, Allie, Elliott, Peter, and Tim.  Leona was daughter of John (Jack) Soucie and Gladys Thurlow (both deceased) and sister of Shirley McQuaid (deceased)(Gerry), Gwen Grignon (Grump), and Dorothy "Dot" Doran (Tony). Leona was a registered nurse, trained in North Bay at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was the director of Birthright for 31 years and volunteered with Right to Life North Bay and was also a member of the CWL. She will be remembered as a person of strength, faith, and kindness. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Brian Shaw, Dr. Singh, and to the nurses and staff of VON and CarePartners for their excellent care. We would also like to thank the many family and friends who offered prayers over the course of Leona's short illness. Family will be receiving friends at the Martyn Funeral Home on Wednesday 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated at the Pro Cathedral of the Assumption Thursday at 1:00 P.M., with lunch to follow. Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery at 3:45pm. If desired, donations to the Near North Palliative Care Network, Nipissing Serenity Hospice, or Birthright International would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
