Gary, Matt and Ryan, John and I just heard the news of Linda’s passing. We were so sorry to hear this. Linda was always so kind and welcoming to us when John started teaching at Widdifield. I still have and proudly display the beautifully painted Santa and Mrs. Claus decorations she had Matt give to me as a hostess gift. Thinking of you all at this sad time and sending our deepest condolences.

To the family of one of my favorite teachers <3 Mrs. Payne taught me to love Shakespeare and in my senior years, would hang out in the English office with her and the others. Before I left high school I gifted her with a big clock brooch that she always raved about before and afterwards. She's been in my thoughts and memories ever since and while I am happy to learn that she lived a full and active life, I am sorry to hear that she has passed and hope that your loving memories of her keep bring you solace.

Linda during her time of pain came to me when I was in mine. I did not know her well, but I will never forget how her character shone through after recognizing me in pain. In my time of need Linda more than once approached me to pass on her strength and moral support regarding my health issues. Such a good woman and my greatest sympathy goes out to those who she touched so deeply.

My heartfelt sympathy for your loss. I am so sorry for your loss. Linda was a lovely, fun friend. I first met her while playing duplicate bridge in Florida and have been playing with her online for the last 5 years. Our results from the games may not have always been sterling but our enjoyment from playing certainly was right up there…always. To say that Linda will be missed by many is an understatement.
With deepest sympathy,

As my grade nine English teacher, Mrs. Payne played a pivotal role in my young life. I wasn't very focused in her class, and my marks were suffering, but she saw my potential and encouraged me in my writing. She even took home a notebook of poems I'd written and gave me her feedback. I later won the Senior English Medal and went on to pursue undergraduate and graduate studies in English literature. She will always hold a very special place in my heart. My condolences to her family and friends.

Mrs. Payne is forever locked in my memories of Widdifield - one of my much loved teachers from 1973-78. She was still Miss Hooker when we first crossed paths. She was encouraging, yet challenging, expecting the best from us (me!) Thank you for your gift of teaching and influencing the lives of so many! My sincere condolences to Mr. Payne and your family.

Mrs. Payne was an exceptional English teacher, though teenage me may not have fully appreciated it at the time.
Having the privilege of learning from her in both grade 9 and grade 13, she guided me through the formative days of high school and the pivotal moments of senior year. Her influence effectively bookended my high school experience with wisdom and inspiration.
She inspired us to write with passion and challenged us to delve deeply into our readings, fostering a profound appreciation for literature. Her guidance was invaluable, and her impact enduring.
Ironically, Mrs. Payne's name came up at a community event I attended in Toronto this past weekend when I bumped into another former Widdifield student. Today I am deeply saddened to hear of her passing. My heartfelt condolences go out to Mr. Payne and her family during this difficult time.
