Obituary of Jolene Jane Erven
Jolene Jane ERVEN (nee Chadbourn)
(December 6, 1940 - July 29, 2024)
Jolene went to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on July 29, 2024. Jolene, mother, mother-in-law, sister, and grandmother, passed away at North Bay Regional Health Centre at the age of 83 after a courageous battle with Cancer and Alzheimer’s. Jolene will be forever remembered by her daughter Nadene (Darren), her sons Chuck (Alida) and Dwayne (Beth), and her dear grandsons, Craig, Zachary, Alexander, Brayden, Ethan and Logan. Jolene was the dear sister of Peter (Diane predeceased), and Wendy (Greg Gilbert). She was predeceased by her husband Alvin and by her parents Joe and Norma (nee Davey), and her siblings Shirley (Ken Appleby), Donna (Don Chamberlain), Nola (Don Green), Dianne (Bill Bynoe), Bill (Dora), and Loren predeceased, (Madeleine).
Jolene played piano by ear at a very young age, and her love of music was ever-present throughout her life. As well as playing the piano, Jolene sang and taught herself to play guitar. She took music lessons later in life to read music and learn to play the organ so that she could play in various musical capacities at church. She also sang with the North Bay Choral Society for a few years. Many who knew her recall how much her music touched them deeply. Jolene saw music as a gift and gave it away freely and often to all she knew.
Jolene reminisced many times about meeting the love of her life – ‘Al’ – at a wedding she was playing at with the Chadbourn band, where she danced with him for the first time. She loved to play hymns, gospel music, and square dance music as well as songs from the 50s and 60s that held special meaning to her. Jolene also had a green thumb, somehow keeping orchids blooming for months on end. She delighted in her garden and taking care of all her plants. She loved her family dearly and was always a help to friends and extended family in need.
Jolene's family will receive friends and family for visitation at the Martyn Funeral Home on Friday, August 9th, from 2-4:00 P.M. and 6-8:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held at Martyn Funeral Home on Saturday, August 10th at 11:00 A.M. and a luncheon will follow, also at Martyn’s Funeral Home. If desired, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association and the Canadian Cancer Society will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
