Obituary of Donald William Lavigne
Donald William Joseph Lavigne
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of the pillar of our family, Donald Lavigne, at the Algonquin Nursing Home at the age of 85 on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024. Donald was the loving father of Jean (Sandra), Pierre (Julie), Celine (Lane), and Francine (Corey). He is survived by the mother of his children, Doris. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Bryanna, Matthew, Braeden, Joanie, Andrew, Alexandra, Jesse, Kaitlyn, Gillian and Malyah, and his great-grandchildren, Leland, Benjamin, Claire, and Dawson. Donald is the dearly loved brother of Florence and Arthur and is predeceased by his parents, Napoleon and Marcella Lavigne, and by his siblings Simone, Yvette and Clement.
Donald was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. We know he will be sadly missed by many, and this warms our hearts. He can be remembered for his hard work ethic, his great sense of humour and despite life’s struggles, he never complained and always chose to smile and spread joy.
On behalf of Donald’s family, we want to extend the biggest and warmest thank you to the Algonquin Nursing Home staff for going above and beyond to ensure he got the best care possible.
Donald’s journey living with MS spans over the course of 40 years. He battled the good fight and did so with so much grace and humility. To keep moving, he immersed himself into the world of woodworking and bread tie art. A few of his larger pieces can be found in the Mattawa Museum - an accolade he was very proud of.
He was the most loving, soft-spoken and gentle soul who will be missed by many, which is a testament to his kind and friendly nature.
Visitation will be held in the Martyn & Sloan “Mattawa Chapel” on Sunday, July 7th, from 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church on Monday, July 8th at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the family plot at the St. Therese Cemetery in Eau Claire. If desired, his family would appreciate donations to the MS Society.
