Obituary of Laurette Estelle Downey

Laurette (née Gravelle) DOWNEY

It is with great sadness that Laurette’s family announce her passing at the Algonquin Nursing Home on Wednesday March 20, 2024. Laurette was the beloved wife of Roland Asselin, she was 88 years old.

Loving, cherished mother of Sharon Allard (Pierre), Mike Downey (Lynne), Brian Downey (Jill), Charlene Dupuis (Joffre), Frank Downey (Sushana), Susan Cotnam (Bob), and predeceased by Bob Mercier (Ginette) and Marc Mercier (Karry).

Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Yves, Denis, Jamie Perreault, Ryan, Megan Downey, Chris, Jodi Downey, Melissa, Makenzie Dupuis, Cassidy Downey, Steven, Mark Cotnam, Derek, Josée Mercier, Brianne, Jesse Mercier.

Her great grandchildren, Nathan, Carson Perreault, Jacob, Matthew, Morgan Perreault, Aiden, Aynsley Perreault, Brooke, Owen Downey, Logan Leclerc, Maeve Downey Conroy, Dominic, Declan Downey, Xavier, Zachery Parent, Ivy, Scarlet, Hazel Cotnam.

Great-Great grandchildren, Oliver, Jackson, Reed, Amelia and Cooper .

Laurette was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Edmond and Cecilia Gravelle, Zenon, Leo, Lionel, Ronald, Aldage, Claudia, Jeneva, Beatrice, Edgar and Denis Gravelle.

She will be missed by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

A celebration of Laurette’s life will be held on June 22, 2024 in Mattawa. (more details to follow).

The family would like to thank Dr. Williams for the care he provided to our mother. Laurette’s family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Algonquin Nursing Home staff for their outstanding care and compassion.
