Obituary of Gordon Forbes Shankland
SHANKLAND, Gordon Forbes
Gord peacefully passed away at the North Bay Regional Health Centre on December 20th, 2023. He was the fourth child and second son born to William and Mabel Shankland.
In his youth, Gord enjoyed the exciting life living on Trout Lake with his siblings, Linda, (Pat), Lennie (Debbie), Susan and Heather (Ross). Fishing, boating, water skiing, swimming and adventurous walks in the woods were part of everyday life.
Gord leaves behind his siblings as well as a son, David Smith.
Gord achieved his plumber’s license at a young age and was soon added to the payroll of his Mom & Dad’s plumbing and heating business until his retirement.
In the last decade of his life, Gord was fortunate to have the assistance of Mary Davis and the Canadian Mental Health Association (780 Lakeshore Drive) and the Osprey Lodge at North Bay Regional Hospital.
The family thanks all the employees of both institutions along with a special mention being made to Dr. Brian Shaw and exceptional care-worker, Anoy (Marty) Martinez for their compassionate care.
We will miss you, Gord, but we will never forget you.
In lieu of flowers, donations to C.M.H.A. or NBRHC would be gratefully acknowledged by the family. A private celebration of life will be held at Martyn Funeral Home at a later date.
