The Carey house was the hub for kids on Orange Crescent. I still remember Mrs. Carey's infectious laugh and her easy-going manner. She was the mom that let us try on her pleated plaid skirts from high school and dance around. And if the wind was kicking up, she could be convinced to take us to Lake Nippissing where we would frolic in the big waves. Mrs. Carey could also be found at my childhood church, St. Andrew's United Church where she volunteered as Church secretary for 33 years. Her endless contributions resulted the sitting room at St. Andrews being renamed The Lois E. Carey Parlour.

Ruth, Mark and family. So very sorry for the loss of your mother/grandmother. Death is so final, but memories live forever and so, remember the laughing, the sharing, the caring and the loving that you all shared. Fond memories soothes the soul and comforts the heart. Sue

Lois was one of the first people to greet me at St. Andrew's. She made me feel welcomed immediately. She saw potential in people. Although I was new to the Church, she recruited me for various little jobs. I loved that. I felt included. She had a calm and steady way about her. And she was very kind. To the Gauthier and Stamp families, and to Lois's other relatives and friends, I send you my deepest condolences and warm, healing thoughts.

There are so many great memories about Lois that I hope will comfort the family at this time. Mrs. Carey was a walking Encyclopedia of all things St.Andrew’s, a close neighbour that has provided my husband, Andrew and the Dunn Family with storybook gems over the years and a woman who exuded the very fibres of her faith. May we all carry these qualities with us. What a wonderful legacy! Thank you for making the church shine by decorating it at Christmastime, even though Lois wasn’t there to do her usual spearheading of this task. It was so appreciated. Our condolences to Ruthie, Ray, Adam, Pat, Leslie and the Stamp/Carey/Gauthier Families. ~ Micheline (Fleming) and Andrew Dunn

I barely remember a day in my childhood without being in Lois’s house. She opened her door to the neighbourhood kids, letting us play music loudly, tumble in the front yard or just retreat to the basement to watch cartoons. She took us on hikes to ‘the falls’ and piled us in the car to ‘catch the waves’ on lake Nipissing when there was a storm. RIP Mrs Carey - you are remembered fondly and with love.
