Ellen and I walked a great deal, especially during Covid, and talked about everything under the sun. We especially enjoyed walking to Kinsmen Beach, sitting on a bench, and having tea from a thermos. Even in winter, when we would eat leftover Christmas cake, huddled in our warmest coats, admiring the ice-covered lake. She had strong principles about beauty, books, and caring for the planet. It was a pleasure to learn from her. After Covid, we were more likely to have tea indoors, often with our friend Adelaide in our sunporch, discussing (again) books and politics. We were busier then too, after Covid, and had tea less often, but always enjoyed it . It was clear that she loved her siblings very much. Both Jim and I offer deep sympathy at the loss of such a lover of family, earth, weaving, sewing, and always, both beauty and justice. She was passionate about all these things, and we admired her.
