Sorry to hear of Don's passing, & also sorry that I have been unable to share my condolences with Mary. I have so very many great memories of soooo very long ago - Port Elgin Reunion & Junior High camps, as we shared together all the fabulous experiences those provided. My thoughts & prayers have been with Mary & her family these past many days/weeks, as we are all sharing in the loss of a loved one (my sister Judi Hopkin passed soon after Don). May God's blessings of love & peace be with you, as you move forward into life without Don's physical presence. Lorna Webster, Kitchener

Dear Mary and all Don's family - so very sorry for your loss. What a beautiful legacy Don left for his family.
He had a special quiet strength and presence to give and will be remembered by those he shared his life with and so many friends. He definitely left his mark and will be remembered for all the love he shared and kindnesses he gave. His life of service to others will be evident for many years to come and many stories will be told by those who were privileged to know him and call him friend. Special prayers for Mary as she mourns his loss. Sincerely, Mary Welton, Sault ste. Marie

To the family of Don Mitchell. As soon as I became a member at the YMCA and had the opportunity to experience the Ladies Spa Weekend (as it was called then) at John Island, I heard about Don Mitchell and in fact the Mitchell Family as a whole. Over 20 years later I am now the CEO for the YMCA in Northeastern Ontario and his legacy is still felt. John Island has been a place that has impacted the lives of so many children and youth, both as participants and as staff. Rarely will a week go by when I don't hear a story that stems from John Island Camp and how meaningful a persons experiences out there were.
None of this would be possible with out the incredible time and generosity of Don Mitchell and his family. I am not an eloquent enough writer to fully convey our everlasting thanks, I will say that Don Mitchell's Legacy will Live Forever at John Island.
Thank you on behalf of all those you have supported and impacted through your work with our YMCA's John Island Camp.
Thank you. Helen Francis and the entire YMCA of Northeastern Ontario Staff Team.

It was in the 1950's when I (Alex) first met Don. It was in Spanish while I was staying at the Mitchell home where they were kind enough to have me. I helped them load cement blocks on their truck for transport to uranium mines that were being developed north of Elliot Lake. Great memories!!
Over the years since then our lives have been richly blessed because of their friendship and support. This has occurred in a multitude of ways - camps, reunions, canoe trips, even a time with Don up north at James Bay.!!
Dons impact on so many will be a lasting legacy of his care, acceptance of everyone.
Alex and Sharon Kahtava.

Dear Mary and Family,
We treasure the memories of Don from many occasions. He was always so kind and thoughtful, wanting to help at any opportunity to be of service. Not only was he a great Mr. Fix-it at Camp Noronto, but he was also generous in sharing his knowledge. Our family enjoyed our visit with you and yours at Spanish and Captain Don took us for a lovely boat ride on the river. It is an honour to call Don our friend.
May God bless you all with His Peace.
Sincerely, Heather & Dwight Fryer

My heart goes out to you, Mary and family. I have such good memories of Don. The years we spent at native camp Noronto are so dear to me. Every time we were together, I learned something new from Don. Mary, I especially appreciated the time that we had a family vacation at your family camp. And then there were the many years we would share hugs and stories at World Conference. May Don have a peaceful journey as he crosses over to the Spirit World. My prayers are with you and the family, love, Dee

Sending my condolences ❤️ Don was my boss while working in the high schools in North Bay. He was a kind, caring and supportive boss and great advocate for the Native Students who attended school in the south away from family. His compassion for the work he did sure helped student and staff while away from home. He had a heart of gold ❤️ Meegwetch Don for the years of service to the many native children that you’ve met. Prayers to his wife Mary and family ❤️
