I will remember Nancy's patience, her gentle nature, and her ability to empower my daughter. For 10 years, Nancy taught my daughter piano. Nancy channelled the energy of a wiggly piano player who has grown into a teenager with attitude. Nancy re-directed misplaced attitude while maintaining the respect of a teenager. The truth is that my daughter was a difficult student and because of Nancy, she acquired the foundation of music skills that allow her to participate in her high school band with confidence. Because of Nancy, my daughter has learned how to reflect on her needs as a learner. My daughter has experienced communication skills from a teacher that enabled her to make her own choices with respect to learning.

My condolences to Nancy's family. We were at school together in Noranda, and later we were neighbours in North Bay for several years. We have not been in touch often since I left North Bay twelve years ago, and I did not know she was sick. I am so sad to hear of her death. She was such a lovely woman, full of life and positive energy. She will be missed by many.
The last time I saw Rowena Robinson, who was our piano teacher, and church choir director in Noranda, Rowena told me that Nancy was her favourite student out of the many (hundreds?) of students she had taught.
Sincerely, Lise Melhorn-Boe

Dear Susan and Jim,
I am so sorry for your loss. I am formerly Janie Judge who lived next street over from you, on Carter Avenue in Noranda. I spent a great deal of time in my younger years playing with Nancy. Also we were in the junior choir together. Nancy, Heather Jamieson, and I put on a play that we wrote ourselves. She was so much fun to be with!
I have not seen her for many years but still remember her sparkle.
I am sure you and your loved ones will all miss her very much.

I was very sorry to read of Nancy's loss. As an ORMTA member first in Chatham-Kent and then in Burlington, I would see and speak to Nancy at conventions. I fondly remember the convention in North Bay. I last saw Nancy at the Festival of the Sound a few years ago. She was a lovely person who contributed a great deal to the musical life of the community and the province.

Susan & Jim - I am so very sad to learn of Nancy’s death. We were very close friends for many years and had recently reconnected to share teaching tips. We shared many wonderful musical moments together and lots of girlish giggles. We had fun sharing our first apartment in the big city and she was my maid of honour when I married in 1973. With your mom now gone and your big sister I am sure there is a very big hole in your lives. Sincere sympathy to your family.

Nancy was a high school classmate in Noranda back in the 1960s. I remember that even then she was a talented musician and it was no surprise to me that music became her life. My condolences to her family and friends.

My sincere sympathy to all of Nancy's family, and to her fellow musicians. We both grew up in Noranda, with mutual friends like Jane Judge and Heather Jamieson and Gael. Nancy was always lively, clever and fun whether in town or at Lake Dalembert, on visits to the Judge camp. She was also brave.. Ovarian cancer also stole our mutual friend Margaret Jeffrey. Sleep well amid heavenly music, Nancy dear. Sandy (campbell)

I have been trying to find the right words, but there are none. Nancy, first an foremost was my dear friend. I have known Nancy for 20 years. We worked together every day for 10 years, at the program she helped us create, Little Fiddles. A true blessing in every way to me, my family, all the littles and everyone she came in contact with. Such fun we have had over the years. One of the things that impressed me most about Nancy was her willingness to continue learning. Not satisfied with her amazing career as a piano teacher she decided to learn first how to play Viola, then the Double Bass and in the middle of all of that play percussion also. I think of Nancy everyday, I think I always will. You were one of a kind and it was my privilege to call you friend.

I first met Nancy in the 90's. Throughout the years, she and I played in the North Bay Symphony Orchestra. Everybody probably remembers that she started on keyboard, covering the parts we couldn't duplicate, like organ or harpsicord, or all the piano parts. People also know that she spent the last few years playing bass. In between, I recruited her for the percussion section. I'm a pianist who converted to percussion and know that great keyboardists make great percussioinists, for a number of reasons. She and I became good friends, working together in the back of the orchestra.
Nancy was always happy and upbeat, and I always looked forward to playing with her because we would have a fun time working on the music. She was also a true professional, never getting flapped under pressure, learning from mistakes and not taking them to heart.
I'm really going to miss her when the NBSO resumes in the fall.
Peace, and lots of music in Heaven, my friend!

P.S. I live on Four Mile Bay. We had many trees come down this winter, so in memory of Nancy, I've planted a beautiful white spruce beside my music studio. Every time I'm out watering, I'll see it and think of her.

My sincere condolences to Nancy's family and friends ... As a NBSO subscriber and supporter over many years, and a friend of musicians in the North Bay community, I had many opportunities to be blessed by Nancy's presence as a fine musician and a gentle and thoughtful person. Her passing into spirit is a tremendous loss to the NBSO and the musical community in Ontario! But she has left a significant legacy through the many lives she touched as a musician, teacher and friend. Her spirit will live on!

Nancy was one of those rare people who know how to bring out the best in everyone. Quiet-spoken, but large in influence. She was an excellent musician and teacher. I knew Nancy through the North Bay Symphony and through the String School. I always enjoyed taking violin students to her place for her to accompany in music festivals. Nancy was so wonderfully encouraging and had a way of making shy students confident. I am truly saddened by her early death. She will be missed by a wide circle of people.

I'm so sorry for your loss! Nancy was my piano teacher for many years in New Liskeard from 1992-1998 and I still hear her voice and guidance in my head when I am playing. She was fantastic and will be a great loss to the music community. I am a teacher now myself and have used her techniques in my own teaching. Again, I'm so sorry to hear of her passing and for your loss.

I am so very sorry to hear of Nancy's passing. Together, we led worship at Christ Church Anglican for more than a dozen years. She was not only an accomplished musician, but a joy to work with - humble and open to suggestions, and quietly skillful at seeing that the music always added to the service, but was never a "performance" in and of itself. More importantly, she was a genuinely fine person. May she rest in peace!

I am devastated. Nancy & I taught piano in New Liskeard and area - we joined our students together to play duets & trios - I loved her like a sister. She was such a good person. I can't believe this. We would write on occassion through Facebook, expecially if I had a question regarding music interpretation. Her mom was a good friend of my family and when Nancy came up to NEw Liskeard, we would usually touch base. I can't believe this. I had no idea that she was sick. May she rest in peace, though good and faithful servant.
