Obituary of Wilfrid Ernest Hebert

Hebert, Wilfrid Ernest

(May 18, 1932 - April 18, 2022)

It is with heavy hearts that the Hebert Family announces the passing of Wilfrid “Bud” Hebert, just four weeks shy of his 90^th Birthday.

Wilfrid is predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Jeannine “Jean” Hebert (nee Gagnon). He was a devoted and loving father to his 5 children: Gary Hebert (Darcy), Wendy Setchell (David), Ken Hebert (Barbara), Karen Dahlke (James) and Kimberly Cole (Jeffrey).

Dad had a special love and bond with all of his grandchildren: Bridget, Drew, Sarah, Matthew, Katlyn, Kelly, Scott, Jason, Christopher, Cameron and Emily. He felt blessed to have great grandchildren to keep him active and young at heart: Madison, Jacob, Jett, Cole and Georgia.

Wilfrid is predeceased by his parents Elizabeth and Ernest Hebert, Jeannine’s parents Estelle and Antonio Gagnon, brothers Raymond Hebert (Charlotte) and Cleo Hebert, and by his sisters-in-law Yollande (Yolly) Croghan, Ginette Gagnon and step-sister Elizabeth Corkhill (Fred).

He is survived by his brother Gilbert Hebert, his sister Linda Brousseau (Leonce), his brothers-in-law Donald Gagnon (Yvonne), Ross Croghan and by many nieces and nephews.

Born in Monteith during the Great Depression, Dad had many stories to tell of his childhood. He was a true family man, who enjoyed spending time and special occasions with his family. Dad worked for Ontario Northland Railway (ONR) as a Signal Maintainer, until he retired at age 55. His work allowed him to establish roots in Temagami, Englehart and North Bay, where he developed many lifelong friendships. He enjoyed cooking and was famous for his homemade soups and bread.  He also enjoyed playing crib, watching curling, baseball and hockey. Later in life, he learned how to use an iPad and how to Face Time to stay in touch with out-of-town family members. Dad had a passion for gardening and took great pride in his vegetable garden up until the age of 87. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to fish and camp. Dad always found joy in the simple things in life. He was loved and will be missed tremendously.

The family would like to express gratitude to: Dr. Terry Rotondo for his ongoing care over the years, Lori’s Independent Caregiving for their dedicated service (Lori, Jean and Autumn), Community Care Partners (PSW’s Julie, Helen and Brenda and others), Volunteers from Meals on Wheels and Nurses Veronica and Chris on C1, PSW’s at the North Bay Regional Health Centre Stroke Unit for their exceptional care, compassion and professionalism.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life on Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Martyn’s Funeral Home, 464 Wyld Street, North Bay. Light lunch will be served.  Current Covid guidelines apply; however, the family appreciates you wearing a mask during your visit.

Following visitation, the family will gather for a private interment at All Saints Mausoleum, 128 Golf Club Road, North Bay.
