I meet Murray when he was in his 2nd year of Apprentices and I was a 20 year old Cpl(x-apprentice) and one of his instructors, You could see his leadership skills rise to the top and he was a leader throughout his career. We were always in contact throughout our careers and as "flat-faced civi's). A great loss to his family and to our Signals community. Stand-down Soldier. V V V

My sincere sympathy to Murray's family. I was one of the benefactors from Murray's genealogical work over the years and so appreciated his dedication and drive. He will be greatly missed by so many that never had the privilege to meet him.

Murr was my friend for 40+ years. He was the RFTA along with Len Silver at 723 and later after I went to Egypt in 79 I then worked for him at the group headquarters. He was always professional in his duties, however Murr always had a sense of humour and loved to play tricks. There are too many stories to tell about Murray’s antics but here is one.
I was about 20-21 at the time working for WO Dexter Zink at the group headquarters as assistant Training coordinator. Dexter was a really nice man but (for some reason) thought I would not say shit even if I had a mouth full. My desk and my boss's desk were butted up facing eachother with a phone on a swivel base in the middle.
One day Murr and Len came over to the headquarters to see Dexter. Murr was sitting talking to Dexter and the phone rang. Dexter swung the phone toward me to answer it. I picked it up and began to say my name, position ect and while I was still speaking the phone rang again. At first I did not know what had happened then I noticed the button on the phone was taped down. Len was in the OR placing the call. Although Dexter did not seem to catch on, Murr had the biggest grin on his face and that twinkle in his eyes cause of the trick he played.
One more: I was still working for Dexter at the time and he asked my to phone 723 about a crse loading message. This is in the late 70’s where there were no answering machines. So I called over said hello and waited for someone to do the usual personal introduction. Next thing I know there is a recorded message (on a cassette tape recorder) that said they are out of the office and to leave a message at the tone of the bell. Well the bell was one of those ones you tap like at a store to get attention. I quickly hung up and Dexter asked what’s wrong. I said there was something wrong with the phone. Next time I saw Murr he had that twinkle in his eye.
He would come to Ottawa and I would go out with him to photograph cemetery’s. He even took my boys fishing. He was a wonderful person and a great friend. I will miss him dearly.
My deepest sympathies to his family. Hugs to all.

My condolences to the family. I remember Murray with fondness. He was one of the “good ones” that worked with our unit, 723 (Halifax) Comm Sqn. He was an excellent mentor and also provided much laughter. I still have my Ming Thing Tree on display, he was so proud of his whole family. RIP Murray, thanks for the memories.

Dear Jackie and Family.
Murray was an incredible gentleman and Chairman of the Restoration project who brought the community together and spent an unbelievable amount of his time organizing and working tirelessly for years at this huge project. Murray was very community oriented, and the volunteers loved him and worked very diligently planting trees, pouring concrete, topping sunken graves, replacing the irrigation system, trimming trees, paving, transporting new benches and on and on…. A group of regular volunteers were referred to as “The Happy Gang” – which speaks volumes about Murray’s personality and leadership. The elderly who are no longer with us were so pleased that their deceased were being honored and not forgotten. Jackie, you too were so much appreciated as you worked by his side for many years in planting the flower bed. Murray was a very special man and the project’s success was due to Murray’s dedication and willingness to make the cemetery a beautiful resting place for our ancestors. May all the special things about Murray live on inside our hearts forever. He is sadly missed. With our deepest sympathy, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Deepest Appreciation and Love,
on behalf of the Friends of Terrace Lawn Restoration

It was an absolute honour working alongside Murray as a member of the Friends of Terrace Lawn Cemetery committee since 2005. I will definitely miss our telephone chats and the odd quick one-on-one meeting in his driveway (during the pandemic). He was one of the strongest, bravest, and the most dedicated person I have ever met. Fate was the reason we first met, Murray had a vision and I happened to be at the right place at the right time. My deepest sympathies to his wonderful and caring wife Jackie and her family. (HUGS)

Jackie and family, please accept my sincere condolences. I have fond memories of Murray. He was a good man, with a killer sense of humour. I still have my “Ming Thing” Christmas Tree that Jackie made many, many years ago and think of them both fondly, every Christmas when I put it out. Take care.

I had the honour and privilege of serving with Murray twice during my military career, both in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in Kingston in the mid-1960s and in the Communications & Electronics Branch of the Canadian Armed Forces in Ottawa in the late-1980s. Murray was without doubt one of the most professional and dedicated communicators I have ever met. Always impeccably turned-out in uniform and willing to help when help was needed, he added immeasurably to the morale and esprit in the unit and with those he served. He will be sadly missed by all his old comrades and not soon forgotten. Rest in peace Murray: you have truly earned it. LtCol (Ret'd) John Dicker, Orleans ON, friend and former Bayite
