I was indeed saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend Alvin. My condolences to all his family and friends.
Alvin and I made so many trips across Ontario, delivering hunter safety courses, and firearm safety courses for many years. Aloo he attended with me more gun shows than can remember. All in all we travelled from Ottawa to Sault Ste Marie, and from the Toronto Sportsman Show to Timmins attending many gun shows.
Alvin was one of Ontario's most senior Hunter Education instructors, and so proud of that.
He provided so many students with the excitement of hunting, being able to pass on his many, many experiences much to the delight of the students.. He also had a great sense of humour. During the hunter ed, or forearm course, the students would learn that he was diabetic. When he would accept a treat such as a nice glazed Tim's doughnut, a student would invariable yell out "but Mr. Neely, what about your diabetes?? His immediate response would be, that's no problem: "I simply lick the icing off the doughnut before I eat It!"
He will be sitting in the old chair by the fire pit t the camp drinking his black coffee and dreaming of those sugar covered, jelly filled Tim's doughnuts.
Rest well my friend, thanks for the fun we had
