Nancy, Barb, and to all the Olmsted Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know your Dad, but your mother was one of the most influential people in my life. She is a huge part of who I am as a musician, but more importantly...as a person. I carry her with me every day as someone who helped me become who I am now. I know of your Dad through her, through my parents, and because your parents were truly part of the fabric of what makes North Bay is what it is. I now live in London, Ontario, and I speak to everyone I meet about my hometown of North Bay. I hope you are able to take this time to truly celebrate your parents - with tears, with good food, and above all with music and celebration!

Dear Peter, Barb, Paul, Nancy and family, I know you will be missing Charlie so much in the days ahead. And, you will surely be celebrating his wonderful life and savouring his memory.
(Another) one of Charlie's many talents was making sourdough pancakes - he would make dozens of them, to our delight, after sleepovers at the Olmsteds' home.
Of the Uneven Avenue Clan members, I always found Charles and Joan to be the most "politically correct" - they could ham it up and have fun as much as any of them, without some of the extra"colourful" carry on (which was also humorous at the time)!
Find comfort in your fond memories of Charlie - he lives on in all of you!

Chris Vassbotn posted a condolence

Growing up on Anita Avenue, we Vassbotns knew of the legendary Charlie Olmsted. He was a founding charter member of the Uneven Avenue families who frequented (euphemism for terrorized) Turtle Lake, Garbage Island and Nipissing Ridge for years. After dear Joan departed, Charlie was the last vestige of the Uneven Avenue generation; a candle that continued to burn bright. I came to truly realize this when I visited Charlie during my summer breaks to take Panda for dog walks. Upon my return we always talked sports, sports and more sports. Summer after summer, he was sharp as a knife, yet always the kind godfather angel.
Charlie, I'm so sorry I wasn't able to return to Canada for the past couple of summers so we could hang out and drink beer. Those were great times. Take care, buddy, and we'll see you soon.

Claude has great memories from his youth of swimming next door and how amazingly friendly both Charlie and Joan were.
Charlie’s laughter and enthusiasm for life will sure be missed. The Gaels and Ticats have lost one of their loyal supporters!
We are both sending lots of hugs to the entire family. We hope that all of your memories will help you through this tough next step.

Peter, Barb, Paul, Nancy and families:
My thoughts are with you as you grieve the loss of your dad. I am so very proud to be part of the Olmsted family. Your parents were a shining example of integrity, hard work, generosity, industry and good humour. Growing up on Anita Avenue was one of the greatest influencers in my life and your family, a big part of that. May you take comfort in all being together and sharing priceless memories. God Bless.
