Obituary of May Nasmyth Flegel

Flegel, May Nasmyth (née Smith) Born May 1st, 1924, Sheffield, England, died November 30, 2021 in Powassan, Ontario.  It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing our beloved mother May, surrounded by the love of her family.  She was in her 98th year.  Predeceased by her first husband, Charles Richard Nasmyth and second husband, George Richard Flegel, and her parents, Ernest Smith and Agnes Smith (née Keats) of Sheffield, England.  Her brothers Ernest Smith (Mona), Ron Smith and sisters, Nora Smith, Theresa Saunders (Joe), Jennie Goulder (Jim), Maureen Thompson (George) also predeceased her in England.  Her sister in law Barbara Smith survives her. May leaves her daughters to mourn her, Sandra Boyle (Garry), Gerrie Lafontaine (Margaret), Theresa Haist (David), Kerri Leigh Smith (Mike) and Julie Blanchette (Lou). She is survived by 18 grandchildren, Donna, John, Kelly, Christina, David, Karen, Tara, Joanna, Angela, Monica, Gabriel, Jason, Ronda, Louis, Melanie, Greg, Patrick and Michael.  Also surviving are 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. May emigrated from England to Canada in 1945 as a war bride.  She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.  She was a caring, kind and witty person.  Rest in peace dear Mum.  We know we are all ‘lucky ducks’. Sincere thanks to the staff at Eastholme Home for the Aged for their support, kindness and excellent care during the time May was in their care. The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 pm at Martyn Funeral Home on Saturday, December 11, 2021. Arrangements can be made to attend by calling Martyn at 705-472-8810. Covid-19 restrictions will apply including vaccination proof, masks will be mandatory while in the Funeral Home as well as social distancing requirements. Light refreshments will be served.  In lieu of flowers, please give to the charity of your choice.
