Obituary of Gladys Helen Paleczny
With deep sadness, the Paleczny family wishes to acknowledge the passing of a dear mother, grandmother, neighbour and friend.
Gladys was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, John Paleczny. She is also predeceased by her father, Frank Orlak, mother Victoria Orlak, and sister, Jean Lukasik (Chester). Both Gladys and her husband were of Polish descent and their families arrived as immigrants to Canada through Halifax’s Pier 21 and worked diligently to create a better future for their families. Gladys and John met in Toronto and later settled in North Bay, where they raised their children.
Gladys is survived by her two sons, Glenn (Samara) and Jim (Tamra). Gladys is dearly missed by her granddaughter, Lauren Victoria Paleczny (aka: Little Gladys) and her grandson, Nicholas John Ryan Paleczny. She is also missed by grandson, Brandon Laxton.
Gladys had a meticulous eye for detail in all she did. She worked as a seamstress in the Toronto fashion industry. She sewed many beautiful garments including her own wedding dress and told many fascinating stories about being sent to fashion shows to inspire the creation of new styles for her manufacturer. She enjoyed gardening and would often be found working in her beautiful backyard rock garden. She was also a wonderful baker and her family now has a treasure trove of recipes that will be enjoyed, but unmatched by her skills.
Gladys was a friend to many in the Pinewood neighbourhood as well as the cottage on Trout Lake. Her sons and their cousins hold these memories deeply in their hearts.
A private ceremony took place on Saturday, March 6, 2021 for immediate family at Martyn Funeral Home. We look forward to a celebration of life at a later date.
Thank you to the caring staff of Eastholme, Dr. Ng, Father Francis, and all friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, donations for The Heart & Stroke Foundation or Eastholme would be greatly appreciated.
