"Uncle" Art played a special role in my life and in the lives of all the Macs. My dad and Uncle Art worked together at Chippewa for many years. I use the word work with caution because there was so much fun and joy and passion in what they were doing that calling it work may be missing the point. A loyal and true friend to my pop through and through- and that was a two way street.
I would have met Uncle Art when I was 4 or 5 at the Chippewa gym. Later on it was at the track as part of the Legion club and around NDA meets as well. Of course at the house with mom and dad and at the camp too. A smile and a laugh from him was the norm that started then and carried on throughout my life. Did not matter what stage of life I was in he wanted to know a little bit about what was going on with me. I never did grow out of calling him uncle either. Never mister Gabor and never Art- always Uncle Art. A special man in my life.
And the stories he could tell. Scoring a goal on Jacques Plante is my favourite, well atleast my favourite politically correct story anyway.
My condolences to the entire family. A life well lived and he made my life better. I know I am one of many that feel the same way.
