Obituary of Shirly Jean Kayes

Kayes, Shirly Jean

March 10, 1949 - June 29, 2020

It is with great sadness, but also great love and pride, that we announce the peaceful passing of a wonderful wife, mom, nana and friend. Following a celebration of her life with her immediate family, she passed with grace and dignity, surrounded by love. 

As in the rest of her life, she was more concerned about the well being of those around her than for herself right to the end. Her smile always lit up the room; her laugh was infectious and her friendships were heartwarming. She taught us all that, “It’s nice to be important but more important to be nice”. Highly spiritual, she believed deeply in “the other side” where she is smiling at us now in the company of her mom.

On this side remain: in North Bay, her husband of forty seven years Rick, daughter Mandy O’Halloran (Kayes), son-in-law Sean O’Halloran, and grandsons Thatcher and Oliver; in Pemberton BC, son Travis, daughter-in-law Alison (Dyck) and granddaughter Winnie Mae; in Thunder Bay, son Garth, granddaughter Deveyn, and grandsons Weston and Gavin. She would wish to include here her loving cousins, neighbors, and so many wonderful friends. 

Special thanks go out to family Dr. Chris Cathers for his continuing attentive and informative care, Dr. Gopalakrishnan for affording her quality of life, Dr. Jinnah for her 24hour palliative care, Dr. Kumar for his early-on life saving surgery, Dr. Mike Leckie for his gentle assistance and finally all the dedicated folks in the Chemotherapy unit.
