Obituary of James Harvey Burrows
It is with great sadness that the Burrows family announces the passing of James ‘Jim’ Harvey Burrows who passed away peacefully with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jim is survived by his two sons Graham and Taylor, his mother Elaine, his sisters Patti Callahan (Mike), Debbie Hudson (Bob), and Mary Pilson (Peter), the mother of his children, Michele, his two step-sons Jamie Cable (Ashleigh) and Jeffrey Cable, and his loyal companion Callie. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Jack Burrows.
Jim was born on January 29th 1963 in North Bay where he attended elementary and high school. He then attended Nipissing University where he attained his B.A, his B.Ed, and his M.Ed. He was a popular, and well-respected teacher and principal with the Near North District School Board.
Jim’s influence over students, staff, and colleagues was far reaching. His gentle nature, his sense of humour, and his compassion were a testament to his effectiveness as an educator.
Jim was a competitive swimmer with the North Bay Titans swim team for many years, where he forged many strong friendships. He was also a competitive curler throughout high school and university, and represented the North Bay Granite Club at a Junior Provincial Play Down. He was an accomplished pianist, earning his grade 10 Royal Conservatory of Music.
Jim enjoyed family gatherings at the cottage, and March Break trips to Florida.
We will miss his quick wit and his entertaining storytelling.
The Burrows family will receive friends at the Martyn Funeral Home on Sunday July 28th, afternoon and evening from 2 - 4 & 7- 9pm.
