Obituary of Peter Tarling
Peter Tarling
(December 11, 1938 – December 29, 2025)
With hearts broken and yet full of hope, we announce the passing of Pastor Peter Tarling at the age of 87. He was a remarkable man whose life was defined by faithfulness and obedience to the call of God on his life.
Peter was born to the late Nancy & Hubert of Llantrisant, Wales, the oldest of five children. His siblings include Sheelagh (Brian), Ruth (Derek), sister-in-law Lillian of deceased brother Geoff and deceased infant brother Phillip. As well, he has many nieces and nephews all living in the UK. Peter came to Canada in 1961 to follow his heart, marrying a girl named Edith Peters from Rainy River, Ontario. Together they served in ministry traveling across Canada, into the States and to various countries around the world. They loved to share the good news of God’s saving grace. Edith passed away in February of 2009, leaving Peter uncertain about his next life chapter. Edith’s family included four siblings, late Gordon, Willard (Enid), Phillip (Rosella), Alvin (Leslie) and many nieces and nephews, who have continued to be close to Peter. Peter leaves behind children Derek (Terry) & Denise (Jeff) and grandchildren Nathan (Olivia), Trent (Marly), Spencer, Summer, Aleah & Parker and greatgrandchildren Kodi, Teddy & Anika.
The Lord had a plan after Edith’s passing, bringing Esther Chartrand (nee Carlson) into his life. She had recently lost her husband too, and so they grieved, healed and began a new chapter of ministry together. Over the last almost 16 years, they have ministered together in various churches as itinerant pastors, supporting, guiding, loving and encouraging people from all walks of life. Peter was faithful even to the day before his passing, preaching his last sermon titled ‘He Knows My Name’ at a local church.
Esther’s family, who welcomed Peter as one of their own, are saddened to see him leave; Brothers Paul (Jean-deceased), Allan (Joanne-deceased), David (Angie) and her children Glenn (Barb), Chris (Joann) and Bill son-in-law of late daughter Roxanne Ferguson. Grandchildren include Hunter, Trinity, Gabe, Ava, Anthony (Samantha), Kimberly, and greatgrandchildren Charlotte, Soham & Oliver.
Peter spent his entire life as a pastor. Often after a day of working on a Sunday, he would take Monday as a day of rest. Monday, December 29th was his appointed day of permanent rest, no doubt hearing the words ‘Well done, good and faithful servant’ as he entered the next chapter of eternal life.
Please join us to celebrate a life ‘well lived’. Friends and family will be received at Calvary Church located at 271 Ski Club Road, North Bay on Thursday, January 1st from 7-9 PM and Friday, January 2nd from Noon -2 PM.
